Wellbeing in the Digital Era

Dr. Evangelia Dimaraki

Dr. Evangelia Dimaraki is a learning consultant who specializes in designing and orchestrating learning experiences to foster inquiry, engagement and creativity. She received her bachelor’s degree in Humanities and Education from the University of Athens and her masters’ and doctorate degrees in Instructional Technology and Media from Columbia University. She also trained as an actor and pursued specialized courses on drama techniques for learning.

She has worked in the R&D department at Ellinogermaniki Agogi (2012–2018) in the game-based learning strand, with a focus on creativity, social-emotional learning and storytelling. Previously, she was on the faculty of the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication at the University of the Aegean (2002–2011), focusing on digital media for orchestrating learning around museum exhibits.

During her R&D work, she observed how smartphones, tablets, and similar devices interfered with concentration and learning. Reviewing the growing literature on digital wellbeing led her to design curriculum to help teachers, parents, and adolescents understand this challenge and reclaim agency in their digital lives.

She was invited as an expert to the webinar "Teachers' digital well-being in 21st century schools" of European Schoolnet (EUN InnovatED webinar series, November 2023). She currently offers her week-long Erasmus+ course on digital wellbeing through Europass Teacher Academy (teacheracademy.eu) and provides on-demand digital wellbeing programs for Greek high schools.
